Counterparts at Rockhampton Art Gallery

Counterparts is funded by Regional Arts Australia Flying Arts Alliance Inc. and organised and supported by Rockhampton Art Gallery. It involved an internship with the Rockhampton Art Gallery to research their collection of artworks by female artists, choose a work and “counter” this art work creatively. Veronika chose the painting by Del Kathryn Barton “Sapling” and countered it with the work “River Vows…in sickness and in health”, an installation of painted veils and mosaic.

Shorebird Book Project

Veronika was involved in illustrating shorebirds for the Central Queensland Bird Expert, Allan Briggs. Allan Briggs is a bird expert and author of many bird guide books to the Central Queensland region. He wrote a book titled “The Art and Science of Shorebirds”, providing photographs and scientific background on shorebirds. The aim of this book is to convey the essence of Australian migratory and resident shorebirds through both artistic and scientific perspectives. The author invited local artists such as Margaret Worthington, Sandra Harald and Veronika Zeil to contribute bird paintings to illustrate the book.

Jericho Mosaic Project

The Jericho community project brief was to stage a public workshop in the main street for a few days to create mosaics for the “Chookhouse” – the main street coffee kiosk operating when the markets are on. Every one came and helped – even grey Nomads and truckdrivers stopped to drop in and try their hand at mosaic.
